Direct Enroll Spring, Summer, & Fall Programs

A variety of courses and academic internships are offered throughout the year at Gustolab International in Italy.  We have also expanded our popular summer program to Vietnam and Japan. Participants can apply directly to Gustolab International.

Customized Field Schools

We partner with University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to offer customized field schools in the spring, summer and fall. Moreover, we design faculty-led programs for Hobart and William Smith Colleges. In addition, we work directly with faculty, study abroad offices and departments who are interested in collaborating with us to design and implement unique customized short thematic programs, winter, fall or spring break programs, and university alumni tours. Participants can apply directly through their home university.

Academic Internships

Our unique academic internship program combines research, language instruction & placements for students with organizations. The placements are customized according to the needs of students and are available from one to four months-time. The positions are in Rome and in other parts of Italy such as Emilia Romagna, Calabria, Campania and Sicily.

Project and Team-based Transdisciplinary Education

In GLi’s programs, the integration of coursework, fieldwork, and projects affords participants a unique perspective on the topics they are exploring. This engagement is driven by personal experience in markets, neighborhoods, and rural areas as well as reflection on important and timely academic issues.

Research and Mentorship

The mission of GLi is to promote research and education on food studies, food systems and sustainability, especially as it relates to experiential programs for undergraduate or graduate students, as well as for faculty. We have excellent networks across Italy and can assist researchers in establishing contacts. We also have visiting teaching appointments which can be used to explore or develop research projects.
