Spring, Summer, & Fall Study Abroad Programs

A variety of courses are offered throughout the year at Gustolab. Our upcoming open enrollment spring program features ‘Food Culture & Food Media’ and our open fall term covers ‘Food in Italy: Sustainable Markets, Products & Processes’. We have expanded our popular summer ‘Critical Studies on Food’ program from Rome, to also Vietnam and Japan.

Field Schools

Research Internships

Customized internships are available from one to four months-time. We connect with students directly to learn their interests and then we connect with local partners to determine the perfect fit. The positions are in Rome and in other parts of Italy such as Emilia Romagna, Calabria, Campania and Sicily.

Project and Team based transdisciplinary education

In GLi’s programs, the integration of coursework, fieldwork, and projects affords participants a unique perspective on the topics they are exploring. This engagement is driven by personal experience in markets, neighborhoods, and rural areas as well as reflection on important and timely academic issues.

Research and Mentorship

The mission of GLi is to promote research and education on food studies and sustainability, especially as it relates to experiential programs for undergraduate or graduate students, as well as for faculty. We have excellent networks across Italy and can assist researchers in establishing contacts. We also have visiting teaching appointments which can be used to explore or develop research projects.

Custom Programs for 50+ Universities

GLi works with faculty interested in the design and implementation of unique study abroad programs in Italy. For our custom programs universities work with us directly to create a program for their select group. We have collaborated with universities and colleges to design and carry out specialized semester study abroad academic programs, as well as thematic short programs and Winter, Fall and Spring breaks.

Worldwide Partnerships

We take pride in having created a reliable network of community, academic and scientific partners. Through this network we give students the opportunity to explore experiential learning and to create ties with local and national organizations connected to Food Systems and Sustainability. We have served students from over 30 universities from 5 geographic areas: US, Canada, Europe, Asia and Middle East.
