Gustolab International is a leading pioneer in the development and implementation of higher education Food Sustainability programs in Italy. We have been providing, creating, designing and executing food studies courses for the last ten years. We work with a wide variety of universities abroad, and have expanded programs, like our popular summer ‘Critical Studies on Food’ program from Rome, to also Vietnam and Japan. We promote critical thinking and multicultural understanding through actual connections with the local community and visiting areas vital to food production.
A variety of courses and academic internships are offered throughout the year at Gustolab International. Our direct enroll semesters include ‘Food Culture & Food Media’ and ‘Food in Italy: Sustainable Markets, Products & Processes’. For students interested in an Academic Internship, we offer customized placements. Moreover, we design and manage customized programs for partnering universities.
The mission of Gustolab International is to promote research and education on food studies and sustainability, especially as it relates to experiential programs for undergraduate or graduate students, as well as for faculty. We also believe in the importance of community engagement: it teaches students how to work in a ‘cross-cultural’ environment with people from diverse cultures, varying educations, different skills and backgrounds. That is why we provide a combination of study with several levels of community engagement and volunteering opportunities related to the student’s future career goals.
Being immersed in a country and culture filled with new perspectives is the best way to diversify your academic life. You will be able to adapt outside of your comfort zone and expose yourself to a completely new world that you might have otherwise not known. Intercultural and extra-curricular activities will give you the chance to get in touch with and discover the habits of the local community. Although it may seem scary and challenging, this experience will help you to grow and thrive personally and professionally.
