Our study abroad programs take place in Rome, the eternal city. Rome is an open-air museum. Spending time getting lost in the backstreets of the historical center, talking to local people to learn about their culture, and tasting typical Roman food will give you a chance to understand the city’s atmosphere. Slowly, you will create a memory of your favorite area, street, food product, local market, and museum, and be able to create your own story of your personal path in Rome. Experience Rome with us through our study abroad programs in the spring, summer, and fall semesters. We also have academic internship programs in Rome and in various parts of Italy.

For all programs, individualized courses of study can be arranged for graduate student or others with special curricular interests or needs. Advanced Italian courses can also be arranged. Please contact Gustolab International for details on special arrangements. Students may enroll for less than the maximum credit load.

OVERVIEW

This fall program is designed, promoted and managed by GLi. Language Courses provider: Scuola Leonardo da Vinci Rome. The study of food is a new and interdisciplinary field linking ecology with the biological, social, and cultural sciences. It is best augmented by extended sojourns in rich and different learning environments – settings where students can observe and reflect upon differences in ecology and culture between their homes and this new place they have entered. GLi has pioneered use of the Italian peninsula as a natural laboratory for providing students with such a learning environment. In GLi’s programs, the integration of coursework, fieldwork, and projects affords participants a unique perspective for engaging Italy. This engagement is driven by personal experience in markets, neighborhoods, and rural areas as well as reflection on important and timely academic issues. For our fall program, these focus on issues of sustainability. This study program will assist students in understanding sustainable food supply chains in Italy through the study of its markets, products and processes.
